Cell phone found after 9 months in lake...and it still works!

Cell phone found after 9 months in lake...and it still works!

Just before Independence Day last year Kathy Smotherman of Paragould got a new iPhone 4S.

She decked it out in a Razorback cover then headed for Lake Wappapello in Southeast Missouri where she and her family celebrated the holiday on their pontoon boat.

Kathy used her new phone to take photos of the fun and good times.

But, when the day came to an end, those good times sank like a stone in the bottom of a lake.

The phone was missing.

During a phone conversation with Your Region 8, Kathy said they “tore that pontoon apart.”

All that glitters...

All that glitters...

On Region 8 News at 10 Wednesday night we reported on a man who caught a three pound goldfish.

But that was in Michigan.

Check out what one Craighead County angler caught in a pond between Bay and Jonesboro.

Jennifer Novalick sent in this photo of a fish her neighbor, Colton Jones of Bay, reeled in this past summer.

Now that’s a big fish!

Region 8 is full of haunted history.

Did you know Calico Rock is home to an authentic ghost town?  Or that a monster lurks in the White River?  Maybe you didn’t know that one of Arkansas’ most prolific serial killers, Dr. John Kizer, lived in Pocahontas.

Have you ever come face to face with a ghost?  Or experienced something creepy in the middle of the night?

Close call for curious cat

Close call for curious cat

This curious kitty got a little more than he bargained for during a recent bird watching expedition.

ELGIN5905 sent these photos of a cat with its head stuck inside a birdhouse hole.

At first, freeing the cat seemed hopeless.  Elgin was afraid if he took off the board, the cat would take off with the board around its neck.

So, he tried to make the hole larger.  He used a zigzag saw, a knife and a pair of cutters.  But, an hour later, the kitty was still stuck.

Today's Talker: Did cop strike out ticketing young ball players?

An Indiana Little League team on its way to get ice cream after a big win wound up sidelined.

A police officer issued the kids tickets for riding in the back of a pickup truck without seat belts.

According to ABC affiliate WRTV, a parent asked the officer how he felt about issuing tickets to kids who “just went an extra inning to win a ball game.”

“I feel that I’m doing my job and possibly saving lives,” the officer replied on camera.

If city leaders don’t dismiss the citations, some parents said they would help pay the $300 fine.

He chained it to a van!
