A Paragould High School basketball player is in the running for the 2012 Wendy’s High School Heisman Award.

Of the 843 Arkansas seniors who applied, Carson Gill of Paragould is among the 20 finalists chosen.

According to a news release from Wendy’s:

These finalists embody the Heisman spirit of hard work and dedication through their outstanding achievements in athletics, academics and community/school leadership.

Big buck for a first-timer

A lot of firsts for Mary Williams.

The former Paragould resident, who now lives in Forrest City, shot her first deer recently on a St. Francis County farm where her husband works.

The 8-pointer was also her very first buck.

She brought it down using a crossbow, which was another first.

Nice job, for a first-timer!
