Just in time for spring break and prom:  Captain Phillip Faulkner of the Paragould Police Department says officers will be cracking down on underage drinking and driving.

Faulkner says March 8 through 17 and April 12 through 21 officers will be “out in force looking for all impaired drivers with an emphasis on violators of Arkansas’ Underage DUI Law.”

According to the law, it is illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to drive with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .02 or above.

“For a young driver, this means one drink is all it takes to be impaired,” Captain Faulkner said in a news release.  “Impaired driving is not just another traffic offense, it is a serious crime that often causes needless deaths and injuries.”
