Students participate in annual Ram Run

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - Students from some Region 8 schools are encouraging their
parents to be physically fit.

Elementary students in the
Paragould School District spent part of their day, on Wednesday, participating
in this year's annual "Ram Run".

Classes ran or walked
around the track surrounding the Paragould Football Field.

Senators propose limiting government ammo sales

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) – Ammunition seems to be in short
supply these days because many local stores can barely keep bullets on their
shelves.

Some lawmakers are blaming an ammo shortage on the federal
government, which could see new limits placed on its supplies.

Republican Sen. John Boozman of Arkansas has co-sponsored a bill
recently called the Ammunition Management for More Obtainability, or AMMO, Act
of 2013.

The Paragould Police Department, along with Dimensions-CPS and Arkansas State Police Troop C, will host a child safety seat clinic this Saturday, May 11, from 9 a.m. to noon on the parking lot of Lowe’s, 212 N. 23rd St.

Seats will be available at no charge and will be installed by certified safety seat technicians.  They will also check your current seat to ensure it’s installed properly.  All for free.

In order to receive a seat, you must bring your child and the primary vehicle the child will be riding in for the seat to be installed.

The Greene County Republicans will hold their monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 13, at Simpkins Family Buffet, 403 West Kingshighway in Paragould.

An optional Dutch dinner and social time will begin at 5:30 p.m.

St. Bernards sponsoring stroke awareness, prevention programs

 

May is National Stroke Awareness Month.

According to an email from St. Bernards Healthcare, stroke is a leading cause of death and serious long-term disability in the United States.

To raise stroke awareness, St. Bernards in conjunction with HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital will sponsor two programs.

The first event will be a Lunch & Learn at noon Friday, May 10, at the Health and Wellness Institute.

Monday July 15, 1963, was pretty much like any other day in Your Region 8.

The sun had burned off a morning fog, according to the Farmer’s Almanac, lifting the temperature to a toasty 88 degrees.

Cardinals fans were probably feeling a little hot under the collar after Lou Brock and the Chicago Cubs shut out St. Louis, 2-0. A year later Brock would be playing for the “right team.”

Aside from Paul McCartney being fined 17 British pounds for speeding through his hometown of Liverpool, not much else was happening around the rest of the world.

'Miracle on the Hudson' survivor to share his story

 

On January 15, 2009, U.S. Airways Flight 1549 landed in New York’s Hudson River.

Dave Sanderson risked his own life to help passengers get off the plane.

He was the last to leave.

On Thursday, June 6, he will be the featured speaker at the Hero Celebration Luncheon hosted by the American Red Cross of Northeast Arkansas.

In addtion to Sanderson, the luncheon will celebrate true lifesvaing heroes in our community.
