The 1039th is back home in Region 8

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – The 1039th Engineer Company of the Arkansas Army National Guard's 875th Engineer Battalion is back home in Region 8.

The group flew into Memphis Wednesday afternoon, and with a police escort, made its way through Tyronza, Marked Tree, Trumann, Bay, and into Jonesboro. 

Students from the Marked Tree and East Poinsett County school districts and supporters from Three Rivers Nursing Center cheered and waved signs and flags along U.S. Highway 63 as the buses rolled into Jonesboro.

Hutchinson talks National School Shield Task Force in Paragould

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT)- Former Arkansas Congressman Asa Hutchinson addressed the Paragould Rotary Club Wednesday regarding his National School Shield Task Force plan after the tragedy at Newtown Elementary School. 

Hutchinson is the director of the National School Shield
program that deals with putting armed guards at every school.

Hutchinson presented two guiding points to his school safety plan.

On Monday, May 20, Arkansas Methodist Medical Center and the Greene County Health Unit will host their monthly “Mommy and Me” breastfeeding support group.

The meeting will be held from 6 until 7:30 p.m. in the second floor conference room in the Professional Office Building at AMMC in Paragould.

The class is an opportunity for new and expectant mothers to meet other moms and  share their experiences.

AMMC’s Tritia McGrew, RN, and GCHU’s Leisa Kennedy, breastfeeding peer counselor, will be available to teach and assistant participants.

"Harleys & Hot Rods" show to benefit CASA

 

The Harleys & Hot Rods People’s Choice Bike and Car Show will be held this Saturday, May 18, at Harley-Davidson Motorcycles, 4500 Oliver St. in Jonesboro.

The show is open to all makes and models of motorcycles and hot rods.

Registration will be held from noon until 1 p.m. with voting between 1 and 2 p.m.  The entry fee is $5.

All proceeds and donations will go to Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for children.

Women considering BRCA gene testing after Jolie's surgery

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Angelina Jolie announced that she recently
had a double mastectomy.

The actress says the preventive surgery came after learning
she has a BRCA 1 gene mutation that raised   her risk of developing breast cancer.

Jolie’s decision to get tested for the mutation has made
many women wonder if they should, too.

Before they do, a local doctor says there are a number of
facts to consider.

Concealed carry class still open for registration

 

Chief Todd Stovall of the Paragould Police Department says a few seats are still available for this Saturday’s concealed handgun license course.

The class, which Chief Stovall will be teaching along with Captain Phillip Faulkner and Captain Greg Trout, will be held at 8 a.m. at Black River Technical College, 1 Black River Dr. in Paragould.
