Agape House planning gospel singing event

 

The Agape House in Paragould invites you to enjoy some good gospel while helping women struggling with addiction get back on their feet.

The organization is hosting a Southern Gospel Singing at the B.C. Lloyd Building inside the Greene County Fairgrounds this Saturday, May 19, at 7 p.m.

The Poes, Gloryland and Regeneration are among the featured performers.

No admission will be charged.

Woods Chapel Baptist Church, 175 Hwy 230 East in Brookland, will host a Friends and Family Day on Sunday, May 20.

Morning services will begin at 10:45 followed by lunch.

According to Pastor Rick Hathcoat, the afternoon will be filled with games and fellowship.

He invites everyone to come join the congregation for “some great fun.”

Paragould student with rare illness attends school

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) – One little boy has been defying the odds for more than a decade despite having a rare illness. Now, he's getting closer to doing something he's only done a few times, attend school.

Tonya Thomason said her 12-year old son, Zachary, is diagnosed with X-linked myotubular myopathy, a rare disease only affecting males. She said Zachary is testing a specially designed robot, controlled with a computer, to go to school.

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) – The Internet has made it much easier to stay connected with friends and family, but it has now given patients instant access to their doctors.

The Paragould Doctors Clinic is one of the latest to offer virtual medicine, where patients can see the doctor from the comfort of their own home.

Dr. Lance Monroe officially debuted the service Monday after spending months training and promoting the program to patients.

Public's thoughts on area flooding sought by FEMA, city officials

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - Although city creeks run dry now...in the past, the slightest rain would cause flash flooding. 

That's why FEMA and Greene County officials are working together to update their 2009 physical map.

Robert Alvey of FEMA says public input is needed.

"Preliminary flood map updates and re-evaluations are a good thing because it allows the public as well as authorities to take a look at any changes that may have occurred, and to adjust and be prepared for a worst-case scenario."

The town of New Madrid is gearing up for the Bass Pro Shop's Big Cat Quest Tournament.

The event will kick off Friday, May 18, with a fish fry and tournament registration from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Mill Street Community Building.   Dine-in or carry-out plates will be $10.

Solve a murder mystery and help the Red Cross

Today's the last day to buy a ticket to "Fowl Play at the Gilded Cage Lounge" and help the Northeast Arkansas Chapter of the American Red Cross.

The organization will present the dinner theater murder mystery on Friday, May 18, at 6:30 p.m. in the Holidome of the Holiday Inn, 3006 S. Caraway Rd. in Jonesboro.

Tickets are $60 per person, $100 for couples and $400 for tables.  They can be purchased at the Red Cross office located at 305 W. Jefferson Ave. before the close of business today.
